MUUAN UNI

Muuan Uni is an immersion-based interactive installation, that consists of a mixed media animation, soundscape and four beds.
Outside the room there's a sign encouraging the viewer to lay down on the beds and view the animation, which is projected onto the room's ceiling.

The viewer's position, the beds, stereo soundscape and the surrealistic animation together create a space that simulates the experience of having a dream.

Dreaming for me has always been a form of escapism, a rest from having a life to live. By making this piece, I wanted to offer the viewer just that; a moment outside of reality. A place where they could just disappear, and after that go back when they feel ready. We all need a break sometimes, and sleep is our bodies way of providing that.

In the written part of my thesis, I explored the phenomenon of something being "dream-like". What makes an art work resemble a dream? What does surrealism have to do with that?

Below there's a few pictures of the installation.
